1920's?

Yay or nay for 1920's fashion? (I stuck in a few modern takes on it)

New Moon...

Anyone recognise this poster? Seen it before?

It was the 'official' poster for New Moon, the sequel to Twilight. Too bad it's not the real one.... I saw this up on Perez Hilton earlier this year and stared at it for an undisclosed amount of time.

Anyway, maybe I've been slow on the uptake, but I only discovered a few days ago that THIS is the real, official, bona fide poster for New Moon...

Thoughts? Comments?
Well here are my 2 cents:
R-PATTZ - gotta love the foregrounding. Marketing obviously knows what's bringing in those teenage girls, so bonus points for putting him right in the midst of our line of sight. As usual, he looks like the strangely attractive combination of pale but brutal and fierce... But I think he shouldn't be slouching. Standing up tall and alert would have been better? Also - his sleeves are too short. There's something unnerving about rolled sleeves, like he's about to wash his hands or get into a punch up with TeePee...
TEE-PEE - this is my new nickname for Taylor Lautner (ie. Jacob). Firstly, THANK YOU HAIR AND MAKE UP for removing that ghastly and heinous wig. It was not doing his face any justice. If you haven't seen the video of TeePee and his muscular biceps and ABS (OH MY), you MUST check it out!!! Just remember not to gape at the computer screen for too long... He's put on about 769kg of muscle to play the role of the werewolf, Jacob and it also looks like they've photoshopped him to be taller, or else he's grown. Anyways, like him in the poster, no qualms. He looks SO mad and protective though (note the fist), but I think it's appropriate given the storyline.
KRISTEN? - note the question mark, because I'm not quite sure that it is actually Kristen Stewart in the photo. I think the special effects department got a bit excited or else just didn't like her facial features. But seriously, WHO is this girl? She's been so photoshopped, she doesn't even vaguely resemble someone who vaguely resembles her original self! She's morphed into a different person!! Her face!!! WHAT HAPPENED?! She's not some octogenarian who NEEDS this sort of stuff... She's probably 20! Or 19! Wait at least 10 years before she needs virtual cheek implants and a facelift!
Anyways, 10/10 for effort as always but I'd give it a 6.835/10 for execution. Only because I would have liked a bit of touchy touchy between Bella and E-dawg, not just her and Jacob (after all, it's what the movie is about) and perhaps a cameo by the REAL Kristen Stewart, and NO guest appearances from ADOBE PHOTOSHOP!!

this should be good

.... as it stars Hurley Who and I's favourite duo:

... looking a tad ham-faced, ham faced upper class (a la Easy Virtue) but that's forgivable given the movie. Any ideas?

It's an adaptation of Oscar Wilde's "The picture of Dorian Gray" (shortened to just "Dorian Gray")

Judging by the slightly melodramatic promo posters below it's going to be quite a dark film which will hopefully give BB the chance to break out of the shallow pretty boy mould.

It shall also be interesting to see what the actual picture itself looks like, given all the funky SFX they have nowadays and the starting material - it won't be easy to make Ben Barnes look hideous; will the bum chin be emphasised?? That being said, there'd better be an actual maimed picture - it would be such a let down if it was just psychological or if they showed Dorian's reactions but not the actual picture...
no trailer as of yet despite it being scheduled for release this year but i'll keep you posted.

Can't wait for THIS movie review.....!

Have you heard? There's going to be a movie of Wuthering Heights... and guess who's playing the dark, brooding Heathcliff??

My FAVOURITE GOSSIP BOY, ED WESTWICK!!!

AHH!!! I'm so excited for this movie!!!! (note exclamation marks)

I have a slightly fanatical obsession with Ed Westwick. Why? Just because he's Chuck Bass!! (sorry that was very lame) Also because he's like an onion, many layers.

The actress playing Cathy is Gemma Arterton who was recently in the new Bond movie and St. Trinians. Apparently there were quite a few casting changes, with Natalie Portman originally being cast as Cathy (noo! she would have been so good!), then Abbie Cornish (not very familiar with her) and now it's Gemma because the producers want a 'younger' look... what do you think?!

the lover is losing

It is time again for a cliché. Like Christmas advertisements in September, the yearly ritual of graduating from high school is well underway. My life is ruled by triple-lettered acronyms. I eat, sleep and shower all in order to keep myself awake. People tell me they have been through this before, and that I too will emerge mostly intact if not mostly unscathed. Yes I am grateful. Yet however well-meaning they intend to be, these kind remarks are lost on me. For I very much doubt that the burning pang of trousers set alight, nor the searing pinch of a papercut between the webs of fingers, can be alleviated by others telling us that they too have suffered this. That is all very well, I say. But I am only concerned with the present, and I would much rather have a shot of caffeine than any sympathy. If I could physically inject knowledge into my brain, I would. I’d line up for it the way people lined up for Michael Jackson. You would too. A dose of the Haber process please. 20ml of the paradox of Hamlet. 5 grams daily of simple harmonic motion.

I went outside the other weekend. That is, to some other place non-related to study. A place other than school, other than tutoring. It was a shopping centre, to be exact. There was a wondrous buzz of activity, of nonchalance, of un-burden. I could have broken down and wept at the continuance of life without me. How miraculous and at the same time, how heart-rending it was! Alas, if it were not for the HSC, the universe would turn into an almighty stranger.

COLOUR!!! WHEE!!!!

I am feeling VERY HYPER right now... (note the caps)
These Damien Hirst artworks are the ULTIMATE MANIFESTATION OF WHAT I FEEL!!! (Yes, the same Damien Hirst who put a shark in formaldehyde, painted the horns and hoofs of a calf with real 18K gold and preserved it in formaldehyde for good measure and created that skull totally encrusted in diamonds... so shiny... check out the Wikipedia link above if you haven't seen his artworks which sell for a squillion dollars a pop)

And I've just discovered the power of colour!

vita, spiritus et amor

So after all that weighty discussing, we thought we might lighten things up. These are just a few of the many definitions of my favourite noun:

Life
(n.) The system of animal nature; animals in general, or considered collectively. (n.) The state of being which begins with generation, birth, or germination, and ends with death; also, the time during which this state continues; that state of an animal or plant in which all or any of its organs are capable of performing all or any of their functions; -- used of all animal and vegetable organisms. (n.) The potential principle, or force, by which the organs of animals and plants are started and continued in the performance of their several and cooperative functions; the vital force, whether regarded as physical or spiritual. (n.) The living or actual form, person, thing, or state; as, a picture or a description from the life. (n.) That which imparts or excites spirit or vigor; that upon which enjoyment or success depends; as, he was the life of the company, or of the enterprise. (n.) Something dear to one as one's existence; a darling; -- used as a term of endearment. (n.) Of human beings: The union of the soul and body; also, the duration of their union; sometimes, the deathless quality or existence of the soul; as, man is a creature having an immortal life. (n.) Figuratively: The potential or animating principle, also, the period of duration, of anything that is conceived of as resembling a natural organism in structure or functions; as, the life of a state, a machine, or a book; authority is the life of government. (n.) Enjoyment in the right use of the powers; especially, a spiritual existence; happiness in the favor of God; heavenly felicity. (n.) Animation; spirit; vivacity; vigor; energy. (n.) An essential constituent of life, esp. the blood. (n.) A person; a living being, usually a human being; as, many lives were sacrificed. (n.) A history of the acts and events of a life; a biography; as, Johnson wrote the life of Milton. (n.) A certain way or manner of living with respect to conditions, circumstances, character, conduct, occupation, etc.; hence, human affairs; also, lives, considered collectively, as a distinct class or type; as, low life; a good or evil life; the life of Indians, or of miners.
