That's nice... What is it?!

The first time I saw Alexander McQueen's new collection, Plato's Atlantis, it was in MX (not a real newspaper but anywhoo). I opened the front cover and my mouth fell open.

So many thoughts in my head... UGLY! AMAZING! SEA URCHIN!

This one kind of reminds me of underwater caves like in Ariel the Mermaid Princess (I nearly types 'the Warrior Princess' haha)

Are those... nuts and bolts?!?!

There are no words for this one. It's like Michael Jackson's glove in shoe form.
~ An amazed and slightly flabbergasted Hurley Who?
PS. Sorry there's no pictures of the clothes or the models' hair. I thought there was enough strangeness for one post :)

initial impression: woah um wacky!

emotions recollected in tranquillity: i like the way he thinks. if one is going to make outrageously expensive clothes and shoes that are just possibly a bit unwearable, they should ãt least make a statement/tell a story/make people think.

other thoughts: nuts and bolts = rusted structures underwater?

fug fug fug. waste of money time talent. I cannot appreciate art when it reaches less than .0001% of the population. The only thing it inspires is the contents of my stomach.

BAHAhA disco i actually laughed out loud after i read your 'contents of stomach' comment... well each to their own.

i think it is part fabbo, fug, faboosh and 'what the fug?'

but mainly fab. i mean, WHY NOT? why not have a heel that looks like a bottle opener? why not encrust it? it's high fashion. it doesn't need reasons. it just IS

haha saw that one too
oh i love the mx
and i love that third pair - i was thinking - try to see how steep the heels would be. its like they're on pointe!
although i did like that "barnyard romp" show, was it dior? - i thought it was very pretty - loved the headpieces. do a post on that! :)

wow, cake crusader, unless i'm mistaking your identity, i'm quite impressed with your uptodate knowledge!

i could not even dance in my own shoes at val, let alone these outrageously high skyscrapers. the pain, the pain.

also CL, i love how your comment contains a funky symbol: "ãt least". special.

so, i was trying to write a comment for this, and i kept rewriting it cos i had so many things to say! so here are my thoughts in quick point form (a homage to my 200 pages of notes)
- OMG! HECTIC MAN!!!
- ok....so how does the foot fit into the weird circular one?
- is it weird that i actually wouldnt mind wearing the nuts and bolts one?
- haha 6 comments already?! love the procrastination action!
- i must write a comment now.

ps. hurley if you can tell who this is, clever you. i think ill just stick with anonymous forever.

such a pity I couldn't actually see the collection first without hearing about this weird, 'ugly' shoes @ Alexander McQueen =(

I usually love his stuff but this is going a bit far - talk about being unflattering.

I could almost classify it as wearable art.

d.read said...

not bloddy wearable! you wouldn't be able to walk down the streets of kabul without being torn to pieces in those shoes. My mantra - if you can't walk around in afghanistan safely in a pair of shoes, it's not worth buying them. and who is anonymous? reveal yourself! apparate or whatever!

haha yes jet, random symbols occasionally make appearances in my writing (remember that time I sent a text message to scott with an úmblatt?! <-- darn it won't let me put an umblatt on the u, you'll just have to imagine the two dots)

and d.read i think you're kind of missing the point - very little of high fashion is actually produced commercially so those clogs (or whatever they are) which you wouldn't wear in afghanistan wont likely be bought by anyone apart from long-sighted people who will be able to sell them to some 'freak shoes' exhibition in the future. and meanwhile we're all talking about Alexander McQueen - free publicity. its kind of like 'iSnack 2.0' all over again...

also - i know who Anonymous is!

p.s. its an umlaut, not umblatt whoops

no name said...

hahahaa CL don't you wish you had googled that just a second earlier?

d.read said...

yes, a dent in your intelligence clearly visible there. and CL, your point just makes my point - ie. high fashion is a drain on the world's resources, and something we could readily do without. I mean, if the kids in Africa can do without a proper breakfast, surely we can do without some sparkly shit on our feet? (note: don't mean to turn this into some moral debate!)

BAHAHA i love this little conversation we got going on. of course disco you transformed light banter into a world vision commercial, but we love you for it.... sort of... :)

let me just say i hope a watered down version of these shoes are available to the general public. well not 'general public' but you know, everyday common people.

ps. anonymous im 99% sure you're who i think you are. vamoose?!

pps. cake that show was chanel. i thought it was... low couture... hahaha

umlaut. seriously C.L. you are special.

i think i know who anonymous?
